The lawn and garden store focuses on mowers, ZTrak and QuikTrak commercial equipment, Gators, compact tractors and STIHL. Keeping them separate means both stay properly stocked and staffed. Swayzee is the only place in the TRULAND group with two stores. There is an Agriculture store and a separate Lawn and Garden store, which tells you something about how this part of Indiana works. Grant County is real farm country, and it is also a county full of towns, subdivisions and country lots where somebody has three acres, a long driveway and a lawn that needs cutting every five days in June.
Splitting the two means the ag side can stay focused on row crop equipment, harvest support and the machines that do not tolerate downtime, while the lawn and garden side stays stocked and staffed for mowers, Gators, compact tractors, STIHL handhelds and the walk-in traffic that comes with them. Grant County sits on the flat central Indiana till plain, with the Mississinewa River cutting across the northeast side and the Mississinewa reservoir just up the valley. Away from the river it is level, square, productive corn and soybean ground with wheat in some rotations. Fields are large, layouts are clean and most of the county drains through tile and county ditches rather than natural relief.
Livestock is part of the picture too, with hogs, cattle and poultry operations mixed through the county and hay ground on the rougher river ground around Matthews, Fairmount and the Mississinewa breaks. Farms here run the range from a few hundred acres to several thousand, and a lot of operators farm across into Howard, Miami, Wabash, Blackford and Madison counties, so what we stock has to work well past the county line.
John Deere is the primary line. The ag store handles row crop and 4WD tractors, combines with corn heads and platforms, planters, drills and air seeders, sprayers, tillage and hay and forage equipment. We also carry Kuhn and Great Plains for tillage and hay tools and CAM Superline trailers.
Across the TRULAND group, used inventory runs into the hundreds of units at any given time, with tractors, harvesting equipment, tillage, planting and seeding and sprayers making up the largest categories. The Lawn and Garden store covers John Deere riding mowers, garden tractors, ZTrak and QuikTrak commercial mowers, Gators, sub-compact and compact tractors, and the 1023E, 1025R, 2025R and 3025E tractor and loader packages. We also carry Toro, SnowEx and Boss snow plows and run a large STIHL catalog of saws, trimmers, blowers and battery equipment.
Service on this side covers walk-behind equipment, lawn tractors, 2WD and 4WD Gators, residential and commercial zero-turn mowers, small and large frame garden tractors, and sub-compact and compact tractors. Commercial mowing crews around Marion, Gas City and Jonesboro depend on turnaround as much as any farmer does, because a deck down on Monday costs a full route. In-season turnaround is the whole job. Central Indiana planting windows are short and harvest here can go from ideal to too wet quickly, so a machine down on a Saturday gets treated as a Saturday problem. Off-season inspection programs are the cheapest insurance available, and we run them for 4WD tractors, row crop tractors, combines, corn heads, platforms, planters up to and greater than 12 row, drill box air CCS, sprayers, balers, mower conditioners, tillage, forage harvesters, skid steers, compact track loaders, compact wheel loaders and compact excavators. PowerGard Protection Plan coverage is also available.
Our Total Farm Support Plan is $1,500 for spring or fall and covers an Operations Center pre-season review and data clean-up, data transfer from Operations Center to your equipment, software updates for equipment compatibility, in-field technology startup and a full year of Call Center support. Agronomy service packages include Data Services at $1 per acre, in-season soil nitrogen testing at $60 per sample, plant tissue testing at $60 per sample and manure testing at $90 per sample. Boundary mapping is done with a TRULAND-supplied 835M Gator and precision ag equipment, uploaded into John Deere Operations Center, with a Full-Service Boundary Program available. TRULAND runs 18 stores across Indiana and Ohio. For a Grant County customer the payoff is parts availability, a much larger used equipment pool and shared technician, grain systems and precision ag expertise. A small-town store address does not mean a small-town parts network.
