Wells County farm ground

The Wabash River runs right through Bluffton, and the county's farm ground follows it. This is corn, soybean and wheat country with a heavy livestock presence, particularly hogs and poultry, and the barns tell you that as much as the fields do. Wells County ground is flat to gently rolling glacial till, well suited to row crops when the tile is right, and tile work is a constant conversation here the same as it is everywhere in the eastern Corn Belt.

Just south and east of us, Adams County holds the second largest Amish settlement in Indiana, centered on Berne, with roughly 11,000 adherents. It is a Swiss Amish community, and Bernese German is still spoken there. Those farms run differently than a 4,000 acre grain operation, and they are a meaningful part of the customer base for a store like ours. Precision ag and agronomy services

Data only helps if it is clean and it is actually in the machine when you need it. Our Total Farm Support Plan is $1,500 for spring or fall, and it covers an Operations Center pre-season review and data clean-up, data transfer from Operations Center to your equipment, software updates for equipment compatibility, in-field technology startup and a full year of Call Center support. That last piece matters at 9pm during planting.

Agronomy service packages include Data Services at $1 per acre, where we build management zones or sample grids and upload them to Operations Center, then upload your soil test results and prescriptions. You pull the samples and pay the lab fees. In-season soil nitrogen testing runs $60 per sample, plant tissue testing $60 per sample and manure testing $90 per sample, which is worth knowing in a county with as much manure to place as Wells has. Boundary mapping is done with a TRULAND-supplied 835M Gator and precision ag equipment, and a Full-Service Boundary Program is available.
