The farm country around Huntington

Huntington County sits where the Wabash River, the Little River and the Salamonie come together, and that river country sets the pattern for how ground gets farmed here. You get productive, level to gently rolling cropland across most of the county, then bottoms and breaks along the Wabash and the Salamonie where the ground turns steeper and the fields get irregular. The Roush Lake and Salamonie reservoir projects take up a chunk of that river corridor, so a lot of farms here work around flood easement ground and public land edges.

Corn and soybeans carry the county, with wheat in the rotation and a real amount of hay ground, pasture and cattle in the south and east toward Warren, Mount Etna and the Salamonie. Operations run the whole range. There are 2,000 acre grain farms around Bippus and Markle, and there are 200 acre farms with a cow herd and an off-farm job. Clean boundaries, good guidance lines and working section control stop the overlap and skips that add up fast on odd-shaped ground. We drive and upload boundaries into John Deere Operations Center using a TRULAND-supplied 835M Gator and precision ag equipment, and a Full-Service Boundary Program is available.

Our Total Farm Support Plan is $1,500 for spring or fall. It includes an Operations Center pre-season review and data clean-up, data transfer from Operations Center to your equipment, software updates for equipment compatibility, in-field technology startup and a full year of Call Center support. Agronomy service packages include Data Services at $1 per acre for management zones or sample grids uploaded to Operations Center, in-season soil nitrogen testing at $60 per sample, plant tissue testing at $60 per sample and manure testing at $90 per sample.
